InnerView with Scarlett Mae, and her Inner Space Yoga props
Scarlett May works a demanding job as a corporate attorney, lives in a suburb of Los Angeles, and finds time to connect with herself, her daughter and her community using Inner Space yoga bolsters and meditation supplies through sound bath and reiki. She also has a teenage daughter who she shares her practice with, so we found this InnerView perfect for Mother's Day week.
Scarlett's beautiful home practice space is filled with Inner Space yoga bolsters and meditation supplies. So we had to ask her...
Is there such a thing as too many Inner Space products?
"There is no such thing!" according to Scarlett. "And, here’s why. They are so versatile. You can arrange zabutons, bolsters and zafus to create a perfect set up for staging a sound bath or multiple set ups if you have multiple participants. And, you can stack the set up so that you have two or three zabutons on top of each other and then round bolsters at the knees and shoulders and two zafus at feet and head. This creates a table for energy work practices or a super luxurious sound bath. The products are also beautiful handmade craftworks that you can enjoy around the home. I was planning on using the atlas bolsters for teenagers and younger participants in sound baths. I was able to get two Spring Out of Winter atlas bolsters (before they sold out) and they look so good that I’m using them in the bedroom.
We love the way you use yoga props so outside the box.
Tell us a little more about your practice.
I started sound bath practitioner training last summer and have been building my collection of instruments. I’m working with three crystal bowls and a handpan instrument that mimics chimes. I’d like to get a gong and the right rain stick. It’s fun to to pick up instruments along the way. I found the handpan at the Melrose Trading Post and picked up a few shakers in Costa Rica last summer. I started reiki training this year. I’ve received my second degree certification in Usui/Holy Fire Reiki. I’m really enjoying the “tribe” and I participate in workshops and reiki shares. I’ll be practicing at this level for at least six months and then I’ll see about level three. For the most part, I’m participating in sound baths and reiki workshops locally and practicing with (on) friends and family in my little sunroom studio. My daughter has been so supportive of these practices and she is my best “client.” Sound meditation and reiki have given us a new way to connect and in a space that is calm and, hopefully, building healthy coping skills for both of us! I’m setting a goal to host a small sound bath at a local studio by the end of the year using all of my Inner Space Yoga products. Getting comfortable in sound mediation and reiki is so important and Inner Space bolsters are so comfy and beautiful!
You have a way of knowing when new items go live on the website and being the first to grab them. What's your secret?
"Hanging out on the Inner Space website — is my guilty pleasure. I love collecting beautiful things especially when they are also very functional so Inner Space yoga bolsters really check my box. It’s so fun seeing what new patterns will be dropped and the surprise of when. I’m crazy about the patterns and I like to have all of the different ones and mix and match them. At one point, I was planning to host the small sound bath and was collecting enough Inner Space products to create four set ups. Then, I discovered building the table and needed more products for that. Now, I feel like I have just the right number of zabutons and bolsters but I need more zafus. So, I’m hoping for a drop of zafus in new patterns this spring/summer.
That's coming soon Scarlett! We promise. And we can't wait for you to see them!
