Staff your Dandasana with a bolster

Dandasana / Staff Pose
Staff Pose is the foundation for all sitting poses in yoga. It's used while transitioning in and out of sitting folding forward poses and seated twisting poses. It is to sitting poses what Tadasana or Mountain Pose is to standing poses. It's a beginner pose but a very important one.
Benefits of using a bolster for Dandasana
Sitting on a flat or oval yoga bolster gives the lift of sitting on a block or blankets. Why do we do it? To straighten the back. Why is that important? It strengthens the spine and allows us to sit taller and longer for seated mediation and pranayama. Or for a sound bath!
How to use a bolster for Dandasana
- Sit on a flat or oval bolster, or an atlas for less height. Start with your feet on the floor with bent knees.
- Press the hands on the sides of the bolster to lift the chest. Pull the shoulder blades into the back. Broaden the collarbones.
- Straighten the legs.
