Savasana for Sound Baths, three ways, soooo many props
Savasana / Corps Pose
Savasana is sometimes thought of the do nothing pose. But there is a lot of work that goes into training the mind to settle into a peaceful place while we lie silent and do nothing. Being still, mentally and physically, takes practice. We wrote about this last time we featured Savasana on our Pose of the Week blog. This week we are on to something a little different.
Benefits of Using Bolsters and props for a Sound Bath
This Pose of the Weak features Cami Coss, Vice President of Meditation and Mindfulness at Westlake Yoga Co. in Westlake Village, California. Cami offers sound meditation sessions where students relax to sound while their bodies and mind reach a deeper healing place. Her space is stocked with yoga and meditation props to help her students relax into a comfortable place while they reach a deeper place of healing and while experiencing sound.
How to use Inner Space props for Savasana during a Sound Bath
Take your time getting into a comfortable resting place. Pay attention to your body and what's working. If it's not working, change it. Explore what works for you. Enjoy.
- First example is using a zabuton under the trunk of the body, with a zafu under the base of the skull to prop the neck and relax the head back of the head. An atlas bolster is placed under the knees.
- Second example stacks a flat and an oval bolster under the calves. This relaxes the lower back and provides an a slight benefit of a restorative inversion such as legs up the wall pose.
- Third example uses an oval bolster placed over the tops of the thighs to provide weight, and a grounding calm to the legs.
Many restorative poses can be restful and healing during a sound bath. Check out our Restorative Pose page in our How To Guide before your visit your next sound bath.
Are you local? If yes, join us at our Shop on the Spot this Saturday! We are collaborating with our neighbors New Moon Rising to host a Sound Bath at 4:00 with Lauren King from LK Art and Soul. We'll be open 12:00-4:00 before the sound bath, while New Moon Rising will be hosting their monthly Moon Market. Don't miss it!
Pose of the Week features our current demonstrator for Inner Space Yoga. Demonstrators are also featured on InnerVeiws. Using both platforms, we are inspiring people to practice yoga by showing real people using our products, and by sharing real people demonstrating yoga philosophies in their daily lives.
