Child's pose with TWO bolsters

Child's pose with TWO bolsters
Pose of the week is
Adho Mukha Virasana / Child's pose
We first introduced child's pose in a variation using one flat bolster. Here we profile the pose with two bolsters: a round bolster under the trunk plus an atlas bolster behind the knees. Child's pose gently stretches the spine, thighs, hips, and ankles. Adding a second bolster makes this pose even more accessible for all beings.
  • The round bolster provides more height under the trunk than the flat bolster.
  • The atlas between the heels and the buttocks provides support to allow the knees to stay more open.
  • This version gives double the comfort with two bolsters and may allow you to stay in the pose longer.

This is a restorative version of child's pose. Adho Mukha Virasana with the arms stretched out can be forward extension. There are sooooooo many ways to stretch like a child. And there is no wrong way to do it.

Other poses that go with Adho Mukha Virasana are: Supta Virasana / Reclined Hero's pose and Virasana / Hero's pose. To stretch out the legs try Adho Mukha Svanasana /downward facing dog. All links are to our Pose of the Week series.
